THREE-SEASON FISHING ON THE COLUMBIA RIVER

Chinook Salmon Fishing on the Columbia

The Columbia River has some of the best Chinook Salmon fishing around, knowing when and where to find these fish is key to a successful day on the river. We fish for Chinook Salmon on the Columbia River from the beautiful coastal town of Astoria, Oregon all the way to the mouth of the Deschutes River near Biggs Junction, Oregon. Chinook Salmon can be found running the Columbia River from March all the way through October. Techniques that we commonly use for Salmon fishing are trolling bait, lures, and spinners or anchoring up and fishing plugs. Depending on the time of the year, techniques when targeting these fish can vary.

With several big runs of Salmon and hundreds of thousands of these fish flooding the Columbia River every year, Salmon fishing is a huge attraction when it comes to fishing in Oregon. Salmon fishing is great for all ages and is sure to get the adrenaline going when one latches on. Now is your chance to book a trip!

CATCH AND KEEP OR CATCH AND RELEASE

Sturgeon Fishing on the Columbia River

Sturgeon are the largest freshwater fish in North America and the Columbia River has one of the best white sturgeon populations around. We fish for Sturgeon on the Columbia River year round from Astoria to The Dalles, Oregon. Typically, starting January 1st there is a keeper Sturgeon season above Bonneville Dam, this fishing tends to be very good as we target Sturgeon from 38” to 54” in length. Catch and release Sturgeon can be caught anytime of the year in both the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. June marks the beginning of our oversize Sturgeon season, during this season you can expect to catch Sturgeon exceeding 6ft in length. Every year we catch multiple Sturgeon over 10ft in length!

Sturgeon fishing is a great experience for the whole family with most days exceeding double digits in the number of fish we get to the boat. Book a trip now to come experience the catch of a lifetime and see North America’s biggest freshwater fish in person!

When and Where to Fish in Oregon

Oregon has some of the best fishing year round, however, knowing what species to target and when is key to a successful day. Spring and Summer offer some fantastic sturgeon, salmon and steelhead fishing on both the Willamette and Columbia rivers! Fall is primarily when we target the big run of Chinook and Coho Salmon we get flooding into the Columbia River as they make their way back from the ocean. In the winter we spend the majority of our time on the Willamette River, catch and release Sturgeon fishing.

The Columbia River is the largest river to run through the Pacific Northwest at 1,243 miles before meeting the Pacific Ocean in Astoria, Oregon. We fish the Columbia River from Astoria all the way to the Dalles Oregon. From the population of sturgeon to the huge runs of Salmon and Steelhead, the Columbia River is truly one of the best in the world when it comes to sport fishing.
Spring in Portland, Oregon offers many chances for both Spring Chinook and White Sturgeon. Starting in March Spring Chinook begin flooding into the Willamette and Columbia Rivers as they make their way back from the ocean. We offer many combo fishing trips this time of year, fishing for both Spring Salmon and Sturgeon on the same day!
The Willamette River which flows across northwestern Oregon is one of the largest tributaries to the Columbia River. From the Willamette Falls in downtown Oregon City all the way to the mouth of the river near Sauvie Island in Portland, we fish the entire lower Willamette River. During the Spring there is some fantastic Sturgeon and Salmon fishing on this river. Winter time on the Willamette River is also a great time for catch and release sturgeon right in the heart of Portland, Oregon.
In the Summer we do a lot of Summer Steelhead and oversize Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia River. Oversize Sturgeon fishing is usually the best from the first week of June to the last week of July. Summer Steelhead are some of the best fish to eat, and they put up one heck of a fight on light tackle! During the summer we also offer the chance to shad fish. Shad fishing is great for both young kids and adults as the catch numbers are insane!
The Sandy River is also a tributary to the Columbia River as it flows 56 miles until it reaches the Columbia about 14 miles outside of Portland, Oregon. This river is primarily known for its run of Summer and Winter Steelhead. We mainly fish the lower section of this river from Dabney State park to the mouth.
From Buoy 10 all the way to the mouth of the Deschutes River, Fall Chinook can be caught anywhere in between. After leaving the Buoy 10 fishery we focus our efforts trolling for both King and Coho Salmon right below Bonneville Dam. This is one of my personal favorites of the year because the scenery is second to none and the fish fight hard!
Buoy 10 Salmon Fishing in Astoria, Oregon is a fishery that attracts clients from all over the United States as it is one of the best around. The Buoy 10 Salmon season is one of the greatest times of the year for catching an ocean fresh King or Coho Salmon. This fishery is short but sweet. We fish Bouy 10 from the first week of August to the first week of September.
We offer catch and release Sturgeon fishing on the Willamette River all winter long. Although it may be cold, the Sturgeon are still willing to bite and with minimal competition on the water, it makes for a very fun day of fishing. Winter Steelhead fishing on the Sandy River is also an option that we offer. This is an action packed day out of our Jet Sled, fishing in very skinny water.

Portland Oregon Fishing Guide Updates
